Why is akito sohma so mean

By locking him inside a dark and isolated room, Akito tortured Yuki mentally, which is the reason why he is very silent and sad. Akito is sometimes as in chapter 20 reminding Yuki of that room, which is causing him to continue to fear and obey her.

She had even claimed him to be her toy, marking him as a possession to her. Akito also threw a flower vase at Yuki's head in chapter Akito had made a deal with Kyo that if he could beat Yuki she would not confine him to the Cat's Room like she confined Kazuma's grandfather. She is especially cruel to Kyo and appears to enjoy leaving him out of many things, including when she came to the Summer House to visit the Zodiac members. She enjoyed mocking him for his inability to beat Yuki, but in a violent and spiteful matter.

Despite her verbal and physical abuse towards him in chapter 63, she stated that she really loves him and would go see him if he was confined to the Cat's Room. By the end of the series, however, Akito and Kyo appeared to have reconciled to a greater extent than most Sohmas: Akito decided to destroy the Cat's Room and grant Kyo along with the others freedom from their curses.

Kyo in return was grateful towards Akito and even admitted he regretted being rough to her when he thought Akito was a man while she was actually a woman. Like Shigure and Kureno, Akito most likely valued Hatori a lot more than the other Sohmas since he was the family doctor and could take care of her when she was injured at times.

This resulted in Hatori nearly becoming blind in his left eye. Even though she and Kureno shared a brief sexual relationship, Kureno had experienced some of Akito's abuse. For example, whenever he left the main house without asking for her permission, she would slap and yell at him for doing so. Later, she stabbed him in the back with a knife when he was trying to calm her down from one of her destructive mood swings caused by her attempted murder of her mother and Hiro's release of the curse , which hospitalized him.

She felt deeply guilty over Kureno's state and was relieved when he forgave her. When Akito learned of Rin's relationship with Hatsuharu, she slapped and pushed Rin out a window, hospitalizing her. Fearing what Akito would do to him, Rin broke up with Hatsuharu and claimed she didn't need him. Akito also forcibly cuts Rin's hair before confining her to the Cat's Room, in punishment for having tried to steal her treasured box. Due to all of this, Rin is the only of the Sohmas fully unable to forgive Akito when she releases the Zodiac, despite knowing that Akito is sincerely trying to atone.

Akito herself can only accept Rin's decision, regretfully acknowledging what she did to Rin cannot be fixed by words. Akito and Haru once used to have a close relationship, to where even with how much Akito had changed, she still fondly remembers their time together. Even though Haru had distanced himself, Haru still appears to actually be one of the few Sohmas she is genuinely fond of: Unlike the other Sohmas apart from Shigure, Akito was never known to abuse Haru and even after learning of his secret relationship with Haru, Akito did not punish him like she did with Rin and actually seemed to maintain albeit twisted a high regard of Haru to where she believed that someone as broken as Isuzu didn't deserve Haru.

Over the years, not only did Haru lost his bond with Akito but he also became horrified by the monster she became and was opposing of her treatment of Yuki. This escalated when he found out of her mistreatment of Rin and nearly punched her and even stated he would not hesitate to kill her if needed. It was, however, indicated unlike Rin, Haru had forgiven her and sympathized with her once her tragic past was revealed. In the manga, when Akito was going to meet Tohru in chapter 64, Momiji attempted to stop Akito from entering her room.

However, Akito became angry and punched Momiji. Akito would have continued to hurt Momiji if Tohru hadn't appeared to stop Akito. When Akito senses that Momiji has been released from the Curse, she goes to him and attempts to convince him to stay. Momiji calmly and sadly refuses, but doesn't seem to hate her.

Hiro also accidentally witnessed Akito push Isuzu out of a window, which later causes Hiro some distress since he wasn't supposed to know about Hatsuharu and Rin. When Hiro was released from the curse at his house, Akito sensed it despite not being there. It took place when she was about to stab her mother to death, and it stopped her from killing Ren. Kureno, who immensely pitied Akito and couldn't bear the thought of making her sad, agreed to stay by her side and pretend to be a part of the Zodiac.

From there on, Kureno has been by Akito's side at all times and never left the Sohma estate. Yuki was verbally, emotionally, and especially psychologically mistreated by Akito; he was locked up in a windowless, dark room for days on end while Akito convinced him that no one would accept him for who he is, that he was absolutely worthless and that no one would ever come to save him.

After this, Yuki asked Akito if he truly was so strange that he had to keep the Curse a secret, to which Akito replied that he did have to, since it was strange for a little boy to transform into a rat. She also told him that any normal person would be repulsed if they knew. For the following years, Akito kept Kureno by her side at all times, even starting a sexual relationship with him.

Shigure became incredibly jealous by this and proceeded to have sex with Ren as a form of revenge. This made Akito even more infuriated, and she thus banished Shigure from the Sohma estate as a punishment. Throughout the years, Akito has been desperate to prove Ren wrong, and that her bonds with the Zodiacs were indeed real. For example, she beat Kisa Sohma bloody after Hiro Sohma confessed his feelings towards Kisa to Akito, leaving Kisa to recover in the hospital for two weeks.

To make matters worse, Akito berated Kana for Hatori's injuries and guilt-tripped her into believing that wanting to marry Hatori was a mistake she should have never made since she is incapable of lifting the family curse.

After Hatori was forced to erase Kana's memories of their time together as a couple, Akito suggested for him to abstain from interacting with her ever again. Yuki was eventually able to leave the main house and began living with Shigure.

Ren commented that the Zodiacs were abandoning Akito, just as she always predicted they would. Akito denied this and claimed they would all come back to her because of the inseparable bond she shared with the Zodiacs. Akito and Ren then made a bet in which Akito was to allow the Zodiacs to form bonds with "outsiders" to test whether they would return to Akito's side.

If they did not return, Akito would have to bow before Ren and then leave the Sohma family. A few months later, Akito somehow found out that Isuzu Sohma and Hatsuharu Sohma were dating one another.

She confronted Rin and threatened her to answer which one had seduced the other, and Rin put the blame on herself. After Kyo returned from the mountains after being away for four months without any notice, Akito severely reprimanded him. However, Kyo swore that he would beat Yuki, and as a response, Akito made a bet with him; if he could beat Yuki before graduating high school, she would stop calling him a monster and he could become a full-fledged member of the Zodiac. Akito agrees to let Tohru stay at Shigure's house.

After making the bet with Kyo, Shigure approached Akito about allowing Tohru to stay in his home. Akito, confident that she would win against Ren, consented to this.

Since Akito believed that the world was a cruel, bleak place in which unconditional love did not exist outside of the Zodiac bonds, she also believed that Tohru would eventually end up rejecting the cursed Sohmas, causing them to return brokenhearted to her side. When Tohru leaves the Sohmas' main house after her first visit to there, Akito is seen gloomily staring out of a window at Tohru.

Tohru spotted her and got frightened by the gloomy hated aura from Akito. Akito had intended to 'check' on Tohru to see how she was doing. However, due to sheer coincidence, Tohru spots Akito and, without knowing a thing, approaches Akito. Upon introducing herself properly, Akito pretends to be pleased about Tohru, praising her on being cute and kind. Yuki comes to rescue Tohru, only to find himself being intimidated by Akito's menacing words about her horrific treatment to Yuki in the past.

Tohru, however, manages to break off the contact between the two by pushing Akito aside. Akito was seen leaving the school, entering a car to be ferried back. In the car sat Shigure, where Akito speaks ill of Tohru, contradicting her "praises" earlier on. Akito was manipulated into joining the Sohmas having a vacation at the summer house by Shigure.

She brings along Kureno. She arrives at the summer house, uninvited and a bombshell to the Sohmas that were present. She instantly summons all the cursed Sohmas except Kyo to visit her, telling them that she "loves you all" and "misses you". She lets them go before the night ended. The next day, she met Yuki when he was taking a walk. She was seen talking to Yuki about something that shocked him and made him "run away".

She later attempts to meet Tohru but she ended up 'giving up' as she felt 'sick and hot' and unable to comprehend Tohru playing with the "monster" Kyo. She had a conversation with Kureno, even commenting that Kureno was "inferior" to her. Akito takes advantage of her influence as God of the Zodiac and using Kyo's guilt and self-loath against himself manages to subdue him.

Next, she summons Haru, purposely insulting him with the phrase "big, dumb ox" and saying she doesn't want Tohru to meet Kureno. Akito is a consistently antagonistic presence throughout the narrative, representing the threat of confined, controlled lives for all the members of the Zodiac.

She is also an angry, lonely young woman forced to live as a man in public, abused by her mother, Ren, and still grieving the loss of her father, Akira. When Akira dies, he reveals that his greatest regret was never reconciling with Ren, leading Akito to believe she was never the most important person in his life.

As a result, she pursues the unconditional love she believes he never offered her in her relationships with the rest of the family. Only once Akito lets go of her role as God, accepting both her powerlessness over others and her power over her own destiny, can she enter into a relationship borne of mutual desire rather than power and control.

This relationship is deeply unequal and unhealthy: Akito abuses Kureno, isolating and belittling him, only to turn around and beg him not to leave her. Meanwhile, Kureno enables this vicious, insecure helplessness by refusing to challenge her. Their pseudo-incestuous relationship, based on desperation and indulgence, is meant to inspire discomfort, even disgust in the reader.

The way Akito manipulates her power as head of the Sohma family and God of the Zodiac to bind Kureno to her deepens this discomfort. She clings to Kureno even as their relationship makes her miserable out of fear of losing control—and, by extension, losing her role as God of the Zodiac. Akito, who wants to be in permanent stasis with the other Zodiac members, is less than pleased to see that Yuki is growing.

Her response is to suddenly attack him to "teach him a lesson". Due to her toxic relationship with her mother, Ren Sohma, Akito has a special dislike of women. It's always the female Zodiac members who bear the brunt of her anger, especially when there's a male member involved. In this case, Hiro innocently expressed to Akito that he loves Kisa, something he felt obligated to do out of the bond he shares with Akito as a Zodiac member.

Luckily, viewers are not exposed to exactly what Akito did to land a child in the hospital. This event scarred Hiro so badly that he avoided Kisa out of guilt when she needed him most. By the end of the series, Akito is so paranoid about losing the Zodiac members' bonds that she begins to lose her grip on her sanity. As a last effort to stop Tohru once and for all, she runs from the Sohma estate to Shigure's house.

She finds Tohru and begins to blame her for the bonds breaking, blaming Tohru for her ending up alone. Tohru responds with sympathy and kindness but Akito still attacks her out of fear. In this instance, Akito turns her hatred out onto another woman trying to come between her bond with the Zodiac.

But unlike Tohru, Kana is too traumatized to continue living a normal life after the incident. Even though Akito's violence is the reason Hatori got injured, Akito berates Kana into believing it's her fault if Hatori goes blind.
